Well, it’s been 10 weeks since lockdown began and in that time we have suddenly moved into June (when it was April 5 minutes ago!), completed semester two at university, and had a sudden heatwave that I don’t think any of us were expecting. However, even though it's been a crazy couple of months there have been some great albums helping make lockdown a little more bearable.

For music, there has been a lot going on since the pandemic struck. You’ve had The Disney Family Singalong which was an American Television special on ABC, then Meerkat Music Presents: Take That & Robbie Williams and Lady Gaga's virtual concert 'One World: Together at Home' with musicians such as Alanis Morissette, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Andrea Bocelli, Billie Eilish, and Elton John.

Then you've had new albums such as Dark Lane Demo Tapes by Drake, Chromatica by Lady Gaga, how i'm feeling now by Charlie XCX, Notes on a Conditional Form by The 1975 and It Was Good Until It Wasn't by Kehlani. But there have been a select few albums that have personally helped me deal with lockdown, from completing all my uni work, to keeping me sane for just a little longer.

These include:

Tove Lo – Sunshine Kitty (2019)

If I'm honest any of Tove Lo's albums would have livened up lockdown and made it a little more bearable, but Sunshine Kitty has some of the best tracks on to cheer you up while being stuck in the house all day.

The top songs from the album have to be: 'Bad as the Boys' (feat. ALMA), 'Are U gonna tell her?' (feat. MC Zaac), 'Mateo', 'Equally Lost' (feat. Doja Cat), and 'Really don’t like u' (feat. Kylie Minogue).

Lennon Stella – Three. Two. One. (2020)

Three. Two. One. is Lennon Stella's debut album and it does not disappoint. Considering most of the albums I've listened to throughout this time of quarantine have been uplifting and mood-boosting, this album doesn't exactly focus on fun and upbeat topics but borrows different elements from the pop genre. Instead, the album has a distinctive sound and approaches the topic of relationships and introduces a new voice in pop music.

Songs from the album that stand out are' Much Too Much', 'Games', 'Fear Of Being Alone', and 'Golf on TV'.

Kiana Ledé – KIKI (2020)

Thanks to Instagram's music feature on Stories I was able to find Kiana Ledé from someone's Instagram story when everyone was doing the Bill Clinton Swag Album Challenge - with everyone's favourite albums. So, I went and did a little digging on Spotify and since then I've been obsessed with her album KIKI.

All the songs are great, but specifically songs such as 'Cancelled',' Movin.', 'Chocolate'. (feat. Ari Lennox), and 'Second Chances.' (feat. 6LACK).

Rina Sawayama – SAWAYAMA (2020) + single Cherry (2018)

My flatmate was actually the one to recommend Rina's music. While most people have had to travel back home because of COVID-19 we've all been doing our university work remotely, which can come with it's own challenges. However, my flatmate recommended a few of her songs to listen to when doing work and she made a great recommendation.

Best songs of the album: 'XS', 'Comme des Garçons (Like The Boys)', 'Bad Friend', and 'Chosen Family'.

Her single 'Cherry' is also a great song - although not an album it needed a mention as it motivated me a lot when working from home with it's fun upbeat track.

Doja Cat – Hot Pink (2019)

I actually came across Doja Cat on TikTok when everyone was doing dance challenges, first to 'Candy', and then recently to 'Say So'. I've actually found a lot of decent music from the random videos on Tik Tok but Doja Cat was one of the best finds.

Her album Hot Pink has helped me get through the pile on pile of essays and projects I've had to finish for semester two of university. The best songs from Hot Pink have to be 'Cyber Sex', 'Say So', 'Like That' (feat. Gucci Mane), and 'Juicy' (feat. Tyga).

Having been stuck inside for what feels like forever, these albums have made life a little easier, keeping me in a good mood and not falling into a lockdown slump. Although, one thing I’m really missing is going out to see live artists at gigs and even club music. I never thought I would but I miss the music from Floho and Soho Rooms.

But for now, I can use this time to find new artists, create new Spotify playlists (I've created a few too many over the past few weeks!), and save up for when concerts and live music events will be allowed to take place.
