Anti-mask demonstration at Northumberland Street

Written by Current Affairs, News

Earth United held a demonstration downplaying COVID-19 on Northumberland Street earlier this week.

Earth United is an organization that describes itself as a ‘solution’ to ‘excessive control systems’.

During the gathering, speakers would go to the front of the crowd and expose their arguments. Their main points were based on their thought that COVID is a hoax, masks are useless and that the governments’ goal is to establish a wide surveillance system.

Members of the organization shared pamphlets that explained in depth why masks aren’t safe and their reasons to think that COVID is a hoax used as an excuse to overcontrol citizens.

One of the speakers argued that the solution was to campaign to schools demanding to not treat children like “bioweapons”.

An NHS junior doctor, who asked to remain anonymous said: “Anti-mask is dangerous. It’s all great that the anti-mask supporters want to risk their health. However, it’s more about those who are vulnerable in society.”

They then added: “If we let the virus run rampant and infect a large amount of people, our health services will be quickly over run. Leading to those who could have been saved with adequate healthcare dying. Which in turn destroys businesses and others’ lives.”

The demonstration came after new safety measures in England were announced last Friday.

These measures include, but aren’t limited to: curfew on restaurants, bars and pubs to serve until 10 pm; compulsory use of masks for bar staff, shop workers and waiters; limit on guests at weddings to 15; no more than six people are allowed to gather; and fines have increased to £200 for a first offence.
