The organisations present at the fair will be different each day, so students are encouraged to attend both days to have a look at potential employers and volunteer organisations. Part-time employment opportunities range across sectors, from retail work to promotion, recruitment and the university itself. Newcastle University regularly employs student workers to provide assistance at events, in hospitality or on Open Days, through their Jobs On Campus and Student Ambassador departments. Popular employers include Lush, Hollister, SSD Concerts and The Naked Deli, which would suit anyone interested in retail, promotions or customer service.
For those interested in volunteering, there will be representation from NUSU's Go Volunteer, which hosts many volunteering projects within the university and further afield. These include the award-winning N.E.S.T. project that works with refugees and asylum seekers in the North East, the student listening service Nightline and various projects that involve work with children, the environment, music and many other interests. Alongside this, other volunteer organisations present at the fair include Action Tutoring, St John's Ambulance, Oxfam and NUSU'S RAG (Raising and Giving) Society.
The Careers Service encourage all students to "come along to our Part-Time Jobs and Volunteering Fair to find out how you can boost your employability, develop valuable skills and get involved in the local community". With a wide range of employers interested in hiring students, this is a convenient way to find out more about working alongside your studies and potentially leave with a job or volunteering place lined up already.
