Urban Green Newcastle started a fundraiser for Jesmond Denes's Pets Corner to help them through Spring.

Urban Green's campaign was set up on JustGiving after Pets Corner was hit hard by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Avian Flu and the harsh winter weather.

But last year it was forced to close its doors to visitors. As a result, has missed out on much-needed donations which it relies upon to thrive. Its purpose was to enable city children to experience farm life and learn about animal care.

Pets' Corner has an assortment of animals and birds, including visiting sheep and pigs from partner farms. They also provide a second chance at finding a home for animals and is partnered with the RSPCA.

The JustGiving fundraiser has been set up with a target of £2,000 for the cause. So far, it has raised £730, which is 36% of its set target. The campaign also has 29 supporters and counting.

Pets Corner has had an integral role in Jesmond Dene since its foundation in the 1960s and was then reopened in February 2011 thanks to a £6 million regeneration programme.

The Friends of Jesmond Dene website describes it as “a popular, family-friendly visitor attraction”. The general public also has good things to say about it with praise being given to the animal carers for their hard work. Many have expressed the desire to visit soon and have talked about how much they like animals.
