Marvel’s Spider-Man just received a large update adding some brand new content for free. This means that even if you haven’t paid for the three-part story called “The City That Never Sleeps,” you get some new updates to your game.

The biggest part of the update is the addition of a New Game Plus mode, something Insomniac are familiar with as even back in 2002 with Ratchet and Clank.

So, what is New Game Plus? Well, essentially, you can start the game over but keep everything you’ve earned, playing through the entire game with a potentially maxed out Spider-Man both level-wise and collection-wise.

However, there is a catch: the difficulty is turned up. So, despite still having everything from your past playthrough in the new one, the game is going to be slightly more challenging.

These are quality of life features that video game photographers out there crave.

In that same vein, Insomniac added a new difficulty option for those who weren’t impressed by the existing highest one in the game. I personally didn’t find it too hard especially when compared to the last big PlayStation 4 title, God of War. That game had an unrelenting and truly punishing top-difficulty-mode.

The game’s new difficulty option is called ‘Ultimate’, another reference to one of the comic runs. To complement these features, Insomniac added two new trophies that can be unlocked by simply completing a playthrough on the new difficulty and in New Game Plus.

Something smaller that was improved was the photo mode, adding the ability to rotate layers along with adding new frames and stickers. It’s also much easier to reach as Insomniac implemented a shortcut option via the left directional button. These are quality of life features that video game photographers out there crave.

More recently, they unveiled the entire DLC which is now available for purchase which comes with even more trophies and content, featuring Black Cat, new costumes unlocked through the new missions, and new challenges to complete in each district.

This DLC can be purchased on the PlayStation store or it can be found by simply going to the ‘DLC’ tab in-game, a new section that displays each of the stories and your percentage in them. There’s the ‘Main Story’ which is the base game and there are three others – ‘The Heist,’ ‘Turf Wars’ and ‘Silver Lining.’ The last two are listed as “coming soon” and each DLC is listed as an episode, with the Heist being the first of the trio.
