This week between the 3rd and the 6th of December, Newcastle University students voted on whether a re-affiliation between the NUSU (Newcastle University Student’s Union) with the NUS ( the National Union of Students) should occur. Newcastle University has voted to remain unaffiliated, with 565 students wanting to stay out and 523 wanting to opt in, a 52% 48% split.
The voting turnout was just over 4% this time meaning that it did not meet the 5% threshold that was needed to make this official. The result will therefore need to be approved by the Board of Trustees who will meet on the 13th of December for this decision to be final.
