NUWFC St James to Wembley charity run

Written by Sport, Sport on campus

Newcastle University’s Women’s Football team are raising money for Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Charity by running the distance between St James’ Park and Wembley Stadium.

A collection of around 30 current players, alumni and coaches will be undertaking the challenge, collectively running 447km over seven days, beginning next Monday and finishing on Sunday 3 May. The club will be keeping their distances recorded on the fitness app Strava before posting daily updates on Facebook to track their progress.

All donations will go to the Newcastle Hospital’s NHS Charity, which incorporates the Sir Bobby Robson and Great North Children’s Hospital Foundations. This comes as the world is gripped by the current Covid-19 outbreak, with questions being asked in Britain about whether the NHS is adequately equipped to deal with the pandemic.

Current Secretary and President-elect Kate Hardy said about the challenge: “we were really keen to do something as a club to give back to the health heroes working on the frontline.”
