For anyone who likes a coming of age series with a twist, there’s a brand new one hitting Netflix next month. From the producers of Stranger Things and the director of The End of the F*cking World, this new show is expected to impress.
Titled I Am Not Okay With This, the show follows Sydney as she navigates being a teenager, dealing with high school, family problems and her sexuality. All of this, along with a random onslaught of mysterious superpowers is sure to make for an entertaining story. Sydney is described as a girl with a dry sense of humour and views herself as just average; that is before she develops telekinetic powers.
Sydney, played by Sophia Lillis, is best known for her role as Beverly Marsh in IT (2017). She is also joined by one of her fellow IT co-stars Wyatt Oleff who plays Syd’s friend Stanley, a brilliant opportunity to see these actors work together again. The main cast also includes Sofia Bryant as Dina, Sydney’s best friend, Kathleen Rose Perkins as Sydney’s mom, Richard Ellis as jock Brad and Aidan Wojtak-Hissong as Sydney’s little brother.
This dark coming of age comedy is based on the 2018 graphic novel of the same name, written by Charles Forsman. Reception to the novel was mixed, with many criticising the ending. There are a few worried fans who are skeptical of how the adaptation will go. But if Stranger Things and TEOTFW are anything to go by, it should absolutely deliver.
We have no full trailer yet, but Netflix released a first look through stills from a few of the episodes. The show is set to drop on the streaming site on February 26.
