Signing with Atlantic records in 2013, Jess Glynne has established herself as one of the most talented female UK singers. Releasing her debut number one studio album in 2013 I Laugh When I Cry provided the opportunity to record with bigger artists and delivered her breakthrough single ‘Rather Be’ with Clean Bandit. This month Jess is launching her European tour in the UK to support the release of her new album Always In Between, with dates scheduled all the way into May 2019. Jess will then appear as the special guest on the Spice Girls’ reunion stadium tour from May to June 2019.
First support act of the night Moss Kena and band played their hip-hop, soul-funk songs. Moss Kens released his EP One + One, the day before the concert and it includes tracks ‘Touch’ and ‘Ain’t the Same,’ which showcase his smooth, faultless falsetto, hitting those high notes effortlessly. Playing more popular songs ‘Square One,’ ‘Problems’ and covering Kendrick Lamar’s ‘These Walls,’ Moss Kena echoed the sound of artists like Cautious Clay.
London rapper Not3s was the second featured support act of Jess Glynne. Bringing to Newcastle his hip-hop, grime, afro-beat tunes, Not3s made sure that the crowd knew his songs were “for the ladies”! Playing his new track ‘Palm Wine,’ along with ‘Addison Lee’ and ending with 2017 hit song ‘My Lover,’ Not3s has a fresh underground grime sound with a Nigerian-beat twist.
Displaying the inspirational words ‘pure’, ‘power’, ‘strong’ and ‘dream’ across the Metro Radio Arena stage, Jess Glynne gave a moving soul-funk vocal performance along with her full band, backing vocalists and back up dancers. Coming out with a cannon of confetti, her performance was both explosive and motivating. It was stated that her song ‘Thursday’ was written during a difficult period in her life and that she wants to make herself her best self and embrace all her own qualities. She thanked everyone who has been there from the beginning and everyone who has joined the journey along the way, creating a sense of exploration and improvement as she suggested that it took three attempts to get the album how she wanted it to sound and that she feels blessed now it’s complete and she can tour her own songs.
Amidst her set, Jess Glynne appeared on the centre platform of Metro Radio Arena with a piano, singing acoustically her songs ‘Take Me Home’ and ‘Broken.’ With some incredible solo instrumental improvisations and dance break-downs, Jess’ crew showcased their unbelievable individual talents. Ending with an encore of ‘Right Here’ and ‘I’ll Be There,’ Jess Glynne achieved an inspiring set of raw artistic talent.
