I think everyone in 2025 struggles paying one month's worth of gym membership, so I shall give you 3 ways to stay active without having to become broke by the end of it.

The first way would be joining any of the 60 campus sports the uni offers. Not only is the process easy but they also have so many unique and fun activities which can really broaden your way of staying healthy and active without spending a fortune.

A few examples would be the Trampoline Club, Pole and Aerial Club and even the Ultimate Frisbee Club. I feel like the options are not necessarily sports that you have had to do your whole life for and above all can make being active a more fun experience as-well as giving you the opportunity to find new friendships.

Being active and healthy means taking care of your own body and that looks different for everyone

A second option would be for the ones who find being active a better experience alone and that would be walking. People genuinely forget how healthy and good walking for you is. Not only would it be free since you could simply walk to campus once or twice a week, but you would also be able to enjoy the beauty of Newcastle.

My favourite places to go to would be Jesmond Dene which has a very easy path with beautiful sightings alongside it and the Quayside which is especially beautiful during November as the Christmas fairy lights shine your path.

A third and final way would be as obvious as at home work-outs.

They don’t have to be the controversial Chloe Ting ones on YouTube but instead you could do some research one things that work for what you are specifically working towards to and start with them.  Easy researchable ones would be some yoga lessons as-well as morning/ evening stretches which can last even just 10 minutes. Being active doesn’t always mean you have to lift weights and have the so called ‘perfect’ gym body.

Being active and healthy means taking care of your own body and that can look different for everyone.
