With the end of November, Christmas is right around the corner. The shopping malls have already been displaying their Christmas decoration and playing holiday hits for a few weeks. Christmas markets have taken off as well, which only leaves the personal obsession with Christmas to arrive, starting with binging every Christmas movie out there.

So, when is it acceptable to start watching Christmas movies?

Personally, I usually try and stop myself from watching anything holiday related before December arrives. Call me old-fashioned or the Grinch, but Christmas should not start mid-November, let alone right after Halloween, even though the various shopping centres might want you to think otherwise. With that said, it is quite hard to steer away from these cheer-filled bangers. With Netflix releasing their new batch of Christmas movies starting in November, it seems impossible not to indulge once the movies are out.

All cards on the table, I tend to end up watching these movies, just as most people, the minute they come out and break my self-implemented rule of no Xmas movies before December. And to be fair, I start to feel very much holiday ready every time I binge one (or more) of these movies.

So why do I keep this ridiculous and slightly hypocritical rule if I break it each time anyway? Mostly because it is easy to get tired of the movies and therefore of Christmas. A fear I have every year is that by starting Xmas in November, with many weeks before Santa comes to town, I will be over it by the time he actually visits.

I’d love to say that December is the only acceptable time to start watching Christmas movies. Yet, the truth is, as long as you still have enough cheer in you by the time you are gathered around the ornament-filled tree, it is acceptable to start watching these movies at any time. Just make sure you keep your holiday favourites for the actual Christmas, so you can feel the Ho-Ho-Holiday cheer to the fullest.
