With many major world tours often skipping past our wonderful city, it can often feel like Newcastle is not the place for music lovers, however, this is not the case. Here are five major venues to keep your eyes on for some of the best musical experiences in the North East.
Number One : The Utilita Arena

The Newcastle Arena is an indoor arena located less than five minutes from Central Station, owned and operated by ASM Global. Whilst it can often be neglected by big hitters like Taylor Swift and Oasis, the Utilita Arena boasts a plethora of incredible world tours each year including most recently fan favourites Noah Kahan and Niall Horan. Despite its impressive 11,000-person capacity, it is unique compared with most arenas for its ability to capture the charm and intimacy of smaller venues. Its spacious design stands out from the usual chaos of arenas and makes every show welcoming and impressive.

Upcoming Events: Becky Hill, The Script, Peter Kay.

Number Two : NX Newcastle

NX Newcastle, formerly known as the Carling Academy and the O₂ Academy Newcastle, is located in the city centre on Westgate Road. Originally opening in the former Majestic Ballroom building, it has recently been refurbished and now hosts a mezzanine floor, eight viewing areas and five bars for both its musical and club nights. Still, it remains a beautifully historical venue with original features in the ceiling, stairways and balcony that help create a dramatic and atmospheric space that is perfect space to host its fresh-faced line-ups.

Upcoming Events: Wunderhorse, Nia Archives, Neck Deep.

Number Three : O2 City Hall

Located in the heart of Northumbria's campus, the O2 City Hall is the perfect location for students to explore new and beloved music. The 2000-person capacity, repurposed theatre is the perfect spot for hosting fan favourite indie artists. It also often hosts lesser-known comedians such as Matt Rife and even podcast tours such as The Girls Bathroom. Like any O2 venue, it tends to be a good all-rounder for a consistently reasonable price. If you find yourself on a night with no plans, definitely check out their website for upcoming events.

Upcoming Events : The Last Dinner Party, Sea Girls, The Blossoms.

Number Four : Riverside Newcastle

Possibly Newcastle's most iconic live music venue, Riverside has been established since 1985. Most recently, it has been owned and run by Tokyo Live, self-defined as owing a whopping nine of the hippest music spots in the UK, Tokyo live is making waves in the live music scene, teaming up with top-notch artists, from fresh faces to global superstars.

Upcoming Events: Royel Otis, Chameleons, High Vis.
