In mid-September, Sony announced the PlayStation Five Pro edition. The console has since left fans divided, with the majority not being fans of the new console.

The new console is set to be released on November 7 at a price of £699.99.  The PS5 Pro features a new way of processing, which allows for graphics to be upscaled, even on older released games, allowing them to look better. This new way of loading graphics makes the console approximately 45% stronger.

However, there is a lack of disc drive on the pro console. This is confusing for a lot of fans since the original release of the PS5 featured a cheaper version with no disk drive and a standard edition with the disk drive which allowed players to use both PS5 and PS4 games.

Fans don’t feel like the slight graphics increase is worth the £200 increase in price.

The price and exclusion of the disc drive, with very little being added to the PlayStation 5 Pro, has angered fans online. This is understandable as fans are expecting to pay more for a somewhat upgraded console, yet Sony has decided to remove one of the key features (backwards compatibility with PlayStation 4 games). On top of this, fans don’t feel like the slight graphics increase is worth the £200 increase in price, £300 if you buy the original with no disk drive.

Sony also released new side plates and a controller that has the same colour palette as the first PlayStation. This is clearly a strategic way for Sony to appeal to fans of the original PlayStation console. But, adding onto the raging reviews, online scalpers have already pre ordered these special edition controllers and plates, leading to a huge re-sell value of some people selling these cosmetics for around $5000 (with the PlayStation Pro included).

Furthermore, due to the original PS5 releasing with limited stock and releasing during the Covid-19 pandemic (November 2020), many people never even upgraded their PS4 to a PS5 let alone planning on purchasing the PS5 pro. Another reason why not many people got a PS5 is due to a lot of games not needing to run on the PS5 as they are still being released on the PS4.

To conclude The PlayStation Five Pro has been met with negative opinions online due to its price, lack of originality, lack of upgrades and availability to the public.
