As a former professional racing driver, and former team principal of Venturi Racing in the Formula E series, there is no one more qualified. Although currently centred on F1, the FIA is the governing body of all motorsports – including karting and other racing championships.
Wolff is the current managing director of F1 Academy, a series dedicated to women. The races sometimes align with the bigger F1 weekends, where drivers can gain support and sponsorship from companies such as McLaren or Mercedes.
Giving women this platform in a traditionally male sport affords them more visibility, and opportunity to get into other racing series such as Formula E and beyond.
Wolff is also the founder of the non-profit ‘Dare to be Different’.

Having a woman as the FIA president would mean a push for more equity within the tradionally male sport, giving women the strength to pursue careers within all areas of motorsports.
Although there is some skepticism regarding Susie Wolff running for the position of president, due to her husband Toto’s position as team principal of Mercedes AMG Petronius F1 Team, this should not be a factor. Her potential as a candidate should not depend on her husband, but rather her own qualifications.
The current FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has been involved in many controversies and been under investigation a few too many times. If Susie Wolff does run, and is given the position, we could be looking at a very different future for motorsports indeed.
