The mob’s first stage of form is known as a ‘Dried Ghast’ and will be a block in The Nether. The dehydrated mob can be found in soul sand valleys and nether fossils and can be collected by mining with any tool. You can also craft it by using bone blocks and ghast tears! Once you have picked up the Dried Ghast in its sad form, bring it back to the Overworld where you can begin to evolve it.
You must make the mob happy through rehydrating it by submerging it in water. It will take a few Minecraft days, but in the end will become happier and turn into a ‘Ghastling’ or ‘Baby Ghast’. With time and care you will need to keep the Ghastling happy by feeding it with snowballs and cooling it down with water. Eventually it will evolve into its third stage of life, into what is known as the ‘Happy Ghast.’
Once the mob is turned into a Happy Ghast you are able to craft a harness which it can wear. It looks to work similarly to horses or pigs, as the LIVE demonstrated being able to sit on the Ghast and fly around the Overworld on top of it! From the announcement the harness is able to carry up to 4 players, so you and your friends can travel around in style.
Many people have flocked online to share their thoughts, with someone pointing out that it allows flight in the game a lot sooner than travelling to The End to source an elytra. Also, others have discussed the possibility of using Happy Ghast’s to easily build in the sky or even be used in parkour courses. I’m certain players will find clever ways to incorporate this mob into their world. Nevertheless, this new mob certainly seems to be a very unique pet or companion coming to Minecraft!
