Baking for me is something which I enjoy because of its relaxing qualities and the satisfaction I receive when a recipe is successful. I feel so proud when other people like what I have baked, and it is such a rewarding feeling to watch something you have put time and effort into come together.

This short guide will provide you with tips and hopefully motivation for you to adopt baking as your new hobby!

By starting simple, you can build confidence whilst receiving rewards quickly!

My first tip for you would be to start simple. There are so many recipes which consist of only one step, which is simply mixing together all of the ingredients, including cakes and cookies. By starting simple, you can build confidence whilst receiving rewards quickly!

When you feel confident in the foundations, you can develop from here and start experimenting in different complexity levels. A good and easy step up is in cookies. One of my favourite things to bake is brown butter cookies. They require a few more steps than regular cookies, as you need to melt the butter until brown, separate the egg yolks and fold in the ingredients at the correct time. They take a bit longer to make than regular cookies, but they are worth the extra effort!

Bakes such as pastries, meringue and breads are some more complex recipes which are easier than they look...

Another tip of mine would be to challenge yourself. You will feel so proud when you bake something a bit more difficult! Bakes such as pastries, meringue and breads are some more complex recipes which are easier than they look. One of my favourite bread-based recipes is cinnamon swirls. They take a while due to proving time, and it is a bit scary waiting to find out if you have killed the yeast, but they are delicious, and they always taste better knowing you’ve baked them yourself.

I hope these few tips encourage you to start baking. Get creative, experiment with new things and have fun with it! As the year comes to an end, I find there is so much more joy in baking festive treats to share with your friends and family! Happy baking!
