It’s time to dust off the sequins and polish those dance shoes, Newcastle Come Dancing is back.

After months of anticipation, NCL Dance’s flagship charity event is set to return on Friday 5th December, promising an evening of elegance, entertainment, and community spirit.

For those unfamiliar, Newcastle Come Dancing is the University Dance Societies very own spin on Strictly Come Dancing, pairing members from Newcastle University’s 200+ clubs and societies, the “celebrities”, with NCL Dance’s own “professionals.” Each duo will take to the stage with a choreographed routine, ready to impress a panel of judges and, of course, a cheering crowd.

President of NCL Dance, Sophie Taylor, said, “Newcastle Come Dancing is one of the most exciting nights of the year!

“It brings together sports clubs and societies for an unforgettable evening of dance performances, all in support of our chosen charity, Building Self-Belief CIO.

“It’s a night full of energy, talent, and fun that you definitely won’t want to miss!”

But it’s not just about the glitterball glory. Each year, the event raises money for a chosen charity, and this time the proceeds will go to Building Self-Belief CIO, a North East organisation dedicated to improving the wellbeing and confidence of young people across the region.

Founded in 2018, Building Self-Belief CIO works to empower young people through a range of wellbeing, employability, heritage, and environmental programmes, all aimed at strengthening their connection to their communities. As the charity puts it: “We give young people a greater sense of purpose and help them realise their full potential in life.”

Charity and welfare officer, Aimee Wager, said "The event has gone from strength to strength, raising more and more money each year, with the most money, £2546.10, being raised last academic year!

"The event is open to everyone at the university who wants to have a brilliant evening watching some amazing performances and raising money for charity!"

The evening itself will be a full black-tie affair, complete with judges, raffles, and a packed programme of performances. Whether you’re there to cheer on your society’s representative, admire the choreography, or simply soak up the glamour, Newcastle Come Dancing promises to be one of the standout student events of the year.

Since its debut, the competition has grown into a beloved fixture of the university calendar, blending performance, sport, and charity into one glittering celebration.

So, if you’re looking for a night that combines sparkle, spirit, and a good cause, grab your ticket while you can, because when the lights go down and the music starts, Newcastle Come Dancing will once again prove that no one brings the moves (or the heart) quite like Newcastle.
