Benthe, who’s been a staple of the 1s Women’s Football Team and 1s Women’s Futsal Team, aims to encourage communication between the AU and students across the University, with this update being the first of many over her term.
In regards to BUCS, Benthe had this to say…
“Over the last few weeks you may have seen BUCS made an announcement regarding competitive sports and leagues being postponed until January 2021, with this being a bridging season”.
So there will be no promotion or relegation this season, and the 2019/2020 season will be used to organise the 2021/2022 season leagues
“BUCS will be announcing their events on 28th August, which we hope will include Term 1 events within the government safety guidelines”.
However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom, as Benthe provided a glimmer of hope.
“Although I know this may seem like disheartening news for most of you, I want to assure you that myself, NUSU and Team Newcastle will be working over the summer to ensure we can run sports at Newcastle safely”.
“Those of you on the committee for clubs that use sports facilities, either hired or owned by the university, will be receiving an email from Sports Services. This will ask you to provide details of how you will be operating within the COVID-19 guidelines required from the Government, The University and their Governing Body”.
