British Pie week is coming at us fast from the 4th to the 10th March, and with it comes the time honoured debate of best pie. Sweet or Savoury. Light or Dense. Pasty or Pie. Here’s my top 3 best and worst pies.

Best Pies:

1. Pork Pie

This is the best pie.

2. Chicken and Leek

I know, a basic choice to begin with but I love this pie. It feels wholesome every time I have it and my mum makes the best version ever, it has mushrooms, leeks and chicken and is honestly one of the best pies out there.

3. Banoffee Pie

"It has a good ratio of crust to filling, the filling is never too sweet or too bland and I’ve never had a truly bad one."

A controversial choice. I can hear my roommates shouting at me: what about apple? What about cherry? Well, I raise you that I really like Banoffee pie. It has a good ratio of crust to filling, the filling is never too sweet or too bland and I’ve never had a truly bad one.

Worst Pie’s:

1. Stargazy Pie

If you have never had this pie I urge you to try it; I will never relive my experience of eating this for the first time. While not a badly made pie the appeal of it quickly goes out the window when you see the fish heads, and stays out the window when you have to battle bones, eggs and tails.

2. Cashew Pie

"Cashew Pie has no original flare and is in fact far inferior to the very similar pecan pie which is miles better."

While not an intrinsically bad pie, the Cashew Pie has no original flare and is in fact far inferior to the very similar pecan pie which is miles better. The cashew pie just doesn’t have a lot to offer.

3. Spaghetti Pie

I’m not sure what backwater hell this pie climbed out of but it is not one I can recommend to you. My dad is a big fan of this pie, and has made it on many occasions, so I can confidently say that it should never grace your dining table. It’s just too much carbohydrates, there is not enough sauce in the world and then everything gets stodgy and its just not worth the effort.
