Hi Bertie! What made you sign up for blind date?
It was mostly just an impulsive decision when I saw it on Instagram. I like a challenge and I felt like this was just the right mix of scary but achievable.
What were your first impressions of Kasashi ?
She arrived a few seconds before me. She seemed a little nervous and quiet, but quickly made me feel at ease and soon the weirdness of a blind date was mostly forgotten.
Did you have anything in common?
Absolutely! We both enjoy reading (I have aspire to have Kasashi's ability to read so many books) and also music - I enjoyed hearing about Kasashi's experiences at a Beyonce concert and the time she saw Lana Del Rey when the artist turned up late. Like me, Kasashi has also recently taken up running.
What did you guys talk about?
We talked about the books we've been reading recently (I have to read 'Sapiens' soon), how underrated the DC animated films are, our shared love of Olivia Rodrigo and the logistics of living in a country with 72 languages - Kasashi's parents each speak different languages.
How did you find the Fat Hippo?
It wouldn't have been my first choice of restaurant but it was nice and quiet, and the burgers were tasty although a little bit messy and unwieldy for a first date. I felt absolutely stuffed by the end of it. Kasashi wisely saved eating the burger for later.
Describe the date as a burger topping and why.
Coleslaw - interesting, humble and good for the soul.
Valentine's Day. Best holiday or commercialised nightmare, what do you think ?
Neither, really. I don't really think about it much each year, but I do think for some single people it just makes the grim month of February feel even lonelier. At least it gives a good excuse to try a Courier Blind Date!
Do you think you'll see each other again?
Probably not. I enjoyed our evening and I could see us being friends, but I think we both agreed there wasn't a romantic spark.
How would you rate the date out of 5 stars?
3 stars. Kasashi was lovely and our conversation was enjoyable, I just don't think we connected on a deeper level.
Hi Kasashi! What made you sign up for blind date?'
I had never been on a blind date before, and I thought it would be a fun experience.
Did you have anything in common?
We have similar music tastes. We're both Taylor swift and Olivia Rodrigo fans.
What did you guys talk about?
We talked about our hobbies, upcoming concerts, favorite movies and shows, and places we've traveled to.
How did you find the Fat Hippo?
I liked it but I don't think it's a first date kind of restaurant. It's the type of place you'd go to with a group of friends.
Describe the date as a burger topping and why.
Pickles. I didn't think I would like the date when I first signed up but it turned out pretty well. Just like pickles.
Valentine's Day. Best holiday or commercialised nightmare, what do you think ?
Definitely a commercialized nightmare. I feel valentine's day is more about lavish gifts and elaborate dates than love.
Do you think you'll see each other again?
Maybe. I think we could actually become good friends.
How would you rate the date out of 5 stars?
4/5. Not bad for a blind date.
