This October 12th, Tynemouth Market held one of its four annual book fairs on the west platform, alongside a celebration of life for Ylana First MBE, who helped restore the station and organise the subsequent beloved markets.

Platform Two transformed into a dedicated space for second-hand book sellers, attracting bookstores and readers with overflowing collections alike. With them they brought an extensive list of niche genres, from vintage maps to children's books to the newest literary fiction.

Even on regular market weekends, the station boasts a large selection of dedicated booksellers travelling from around Newcastle and Northumberland, and is absolutely worth paying a visit to support independent bookish business and score reads for under a fiver!

Alongside this, Platform Two also hosted a celebration of life for Ylana First MBE from 11-1, after her passing aged 92. She was a seminal figure in restoring the station and organising Tynemouth Market and book fairs as we know them today, and will be remembered for her contributions to the arts in the Northeast.

Whilst this was their final dedicated book fair this year, their website highlights the Bedale book fair, Keel Row books and many more stores to check out across Northumberland.

Catch the next Tynemouth Market book fair in 2026, and make sure to hop on the yellow line next weekend and check out some stalls.
