With the first leg of the round of 16 played, let's look at what teams are most likely to make it to the Champions League Quarter Finals.

Here are all results for the first leg of the round of 16:

  • Leizpig vs. Real Madrid: 0-1
  • Copenhagen vs. Man City: 1-3
  • Lazio vs. Bayern: 1-0
  • PSG vs. Real Sociedad: 2-0
  • Inter Milan vs. Atletico de Madrid: 1-0
  • PSV vs. Dortmund: 1-1
  • FC Porto vs. Arsenal: 1-0
  • Napoli vs. Barcelona: 1-1

Currently, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Lazio, PSG, Inter Milan, and FC Porto are ahead after the first leg and on track to reach the Quarter finals of the Champions League. Manchester City and PSG currently have the best odds, being 2 goals up from their opponents. PSV and Dortmund have drawn in the first leg, and whilst PSV had more possession and shots overall, they failed to score from an actual attempt, the equalising goal being Jong’s penalty in the 56th minute. Napoli and Barcelona also drew in the first round, with Barcelona dominating with six out of twelve shots on target, in comparison to Napoli’s one out of six. Whilst Napoli got further than Barcelona in the 2022/23 Champions League tournament, the odds seem to be more in Barcelona’s favour this year, as long as they continue to create attempts and score more of them in the second leg.

Lazio, Real Sociedad and Arsenal are teams that have managed to do well by making it to the round of 16, not having secured a spot in last season's Champions League tournament. Out of them though, Arsenal is the only side likely to make the Quarter finals.

Manchester City are the favourites to win the Champions League in the 2023/24 season, after winning the treble in what can only be described as a fantastic season in 2022/23.

Manchester City are the favourites to win the Champions League in the 2023/24 season. After winning the treble in what can only be described as a fantastic season in 2022/23, the Citizens are on track for another great season, and most likely, at least one trophy this season too. They are currently in the Premier League race for the title against Liverpool and Arsenal, sitting in 2nd place.

Based on their stats for last season and their current season stats, the teams most likely to make it to the Quarter Finals are Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, PSG, Inter Milan, Dortmund and Arsenal. The Champions League is anything but straightforward, so we will see what teams do as expected and which leave us shocked.

The second leg matches are on the 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th March at 8pm.
