5. HIT MAN
This action romcom is perfect for everyone when you’re trying to find that easy Friday night compromise film to watch with your housemates. It’s funny and sexy whilst keeping you on the edge of your seat. If you’ve been put off by the fact it’s packaged like every other bad Netflix film on the Netflix homepage, don’t be - it’s worth a watch.
4. THE KING
Timothee Chalamet doing an English accent and Robert Pattinson doing a French one! I understand that historical dramas might not be everyone’s cup of tea but this medieval tale of war and lies is brilliant for anyone that is into them, which incidentally I am. My only word of warning: don’t watch it for the end, which falls a little flat in my opinion. Watch it for the battles.
3. THE KNIVES OUT FILMS
I might be cheating a bit here by putting two films in, but I couldn’t choose one over the other. Murder mysteries are a classic genre and the big advantage these films have over a Kenneth Branagh Agatha Christie, for example, is they are original and if you haven’t seen it then you won’t know whodunnit.
2. THE FUNDEMENTALS OF CARING
This funny, heartwarming, quirky film first came out in 2016 and eight years later is still one of Netflix’s best original films. Paul Rudd, Craig Roberts and Selena Gomez pull on heartstrings in this film adapted from ‘The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving’ and teach us lessons on hope, friendship and coping with life.
1. BO BURNHAM: INSIDE
This film is truly one of its kind and I imagine it's unlikely anything like it will come along for a while. It is a time capsule of Covid history that makes you laugh and puts a pit in your stomach. I believe it’s Bo Burnham’s best work to date which is especially amazing considering the courage of doing his comedy to an audience of nobody before releasing it for the whole world to see. I’m sure you’ve watched it and heard the songs; I hope you’ll agree it’s worthy of the number one spot.
