After all, you can’t wear what you wore for stockings and presents to a fancy Christmas party in the evening. It can be hard to have all the outfit ideas ready in the wardrobe beforehand so it can be great to turn to some inspiration in films for ideas on what to wear and when at Christmas.
Starting off the day with stockings and presents:
I know a lot of people might like to get up, get showered and dress in something nice before opening presents, but for a lot of us, the excitement becomes too much and we end up doing it in our pyjamas. That’s why for my first film inspiration, and perhaps controversially, I've turned to a character who's known for not liking Christmas! On Christmas morning, why not come downstairs and open presents in Ebenezer Scrooge’s classic nightcap, gown and dressing gown combo? It's comfy, it's covered up enough to be around the family, and it's sure to keep you warm on a frosty Christmas morning.
Next up is Christmas lunch and a walk:
For this, I’ve gone much more modern but stuck with a classic chicness. For Christmas lunch, you want to look nice, but this is probably the outfit you will spend most of the day in so it has to be comfortable. That’s why I’ve gone for Cameron Diaz’s look in The Holiday, which is also incidentally what Blair’s boyfriend wears in Christmas with the Kranks; Some nice trousers with a cream or white knitted jumper. It's nice, it's warm, it’s bound to have a lovely pattern on it and it looks good on everyone. Once it's time for the walk, throw on a scarf and long coat and look like Chris Evans in Knives Out, or any of the Dead Poet’s Society members.
Now, for the fancy Christmas party to round off the night:
This is the moment to dress up; dresses, shirts, makeup, jewellery, accessories, the lot. Why not try something bold like Mia’s red dress from Love Actually? It’s sexy, seasonal and fancy. If you would rather have something more festive, why not try Emilia Clarke’s Last Christmas look of a green dress with multicoloured fairy lights wrapped around it? Whatever you choose, as long as you’re comfortable, happy and confident, I can promise it will look good - and, at the end of the day, it's less about what you wear and more about how you wear it. Just take Keira Knightley's baker boy denim cap for example! Are we all ready to agree she looked great in that?
