The event aims to bring together a community of local brands, sellers and shoppers this Sunday. Amidst the fast-paced consumerism that often comes with the festive period, Clothes Cycle’s market will offer a sustainable alternative to Christmas shopping. Whether you are shopping for unique festive gifts or looking to treat yourself to exciting vintage finds, the event has something to offer for all kinds of student shoppers.
Established in 2022, Clothes Cycle is now the UK’s largest sustainable fashion market brand, hosting vintage pop-ups across the country. The thrift market event held in Newcastle earlier this year was a huge success, with over 2000 attendees. As well as promising an even bigger line-up of sellers, Sunday’s event will also have a festive twist: there will be mulled wine, festive menus from local vendors, and a festive raffle with prizes from local businesses.
Clothes Cycle’s mission is “to make sustainable fashion accessible, affordable, and genuinely exciting”. Whilst vintage shopping can be expensive, Clothes Cycle’s festive thrift market offers student-friendly pricing options to keep preloved fashion accessible. Whilst VIP tickets (allowing early entry to get the first pick of the clothes) are £8.50 each, the cheapest option is just £2 for last hour entry (although a riskier option if you’re an avid thrifter on the hunt for vintage treasures). There is also a free clothes swap taking place all day, where you can bring up to 5 preloved items to swap. If the Vinted selling has gone stale and you’d like a wardrobe refresh, bring some clothes along to swap!
... sustainability is for life, not just for Christmas!
- Clothes Cycle
The clothes for sale range from sustainable indie brands to Y2K staples and even designer archive pieces. However, the day offers more than just shopping: there will be DJs spinning all day and pop-ups offering tooth gems, hand poke tattoos, permanent jewellery, henna, and more. Vintage fanatics and first-time thrifters alike should have plenty to keep them entertained throughout the day. Clothes Cycle hopes to create a fun-filled day that overall reduces waste and inspires more people to choose preloved first, reminding us that “sustainability is for life, not just for Christmas!”
