After the recent visit of Maisie Williams to Newcastle University, my hype for Season 8 of Game of Thrones is stronger than ever. However, she did not divulge on details as to who will end up on the Iron Throne, so sadly, our theories are all we have for now.
So, what do we know about the upcoming and final series of one of the most popular shows on TV at the moment? With the recent release of the teaser trailer, we know that the season is scheduled to premiere on April 14, featuring for just six episodes. From the reactions on social media thus far, it’s definitely going to be an emotional ride.

Fans were also given footage of Sansa Stark, Jon Snow and Arya Stark’s statues, alluding to the fact that some of our favourite characters may possibly end up dead in the final close to the show. In addition to this, fans basically got the confirmation that Jon Snow is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, making him the true heir to the Iron Throne, symbolised poignantly through the feather.
It’s also becoming clear that the White Walkers are going to be the main villains in Season 8 as the ice in the teaser trailer and the epic finale of Season 7 saw The Night King and its Ice Dragon break down The Wall and make their move on Westeros. I for one am extremely excited to see Daenerys get her revenge on the White Walkers.
For Stark fans like myself, the trailer not only brought me excitement at the prospect of the Stark family reunion, it also highlighted the absence of Bran Stark. With the very mysterious aspect of his plotline in the previous season as he became stuck in time, it has been suggested by fans that Bran, this season, will be revealed as the Night King. If this is true, that is going to be one hell of a plot twist that will most likely break the internet.
That isn’t the only teaser we have been blessed with. During the Golden Globes, we were graced with Dany entering Winterfell to be greeted by Sansa Starks “Winterfell is yours, your grace”…. Although I don’t know about you but there was definitely some underlying tension there. You go Sansa, don’t give your throne over that easily. Even if she owns dragons.
What else do we know? We know Maisie Williams said that no one will be satisfied with the ending, while Harington says that “the last season of Thrones seemed to be designed to break” the cast. HBO boss Richard Plepler has also likened the final season to being like “six movies”.
So what are we expecting? Death, violence, tension, drama and most definitely, war. It’ll be thrilling, exhilarating and next level feels and emotions and I cannot wait.
