Vera is almost retired as a Detective Chief Inspector but remains obsessive about her work and can’t quite leave the fictional Northumberland & City Police HQ. She is often superior to the rest of the team and struts around the North East in an incredibly eccentric yet iconic manner.
The series put Newcastle firmly on the map and the Ranger Rover driving detective has been a staple on ITV for well over a decade.
The series is filmed in Newcastle upon Tyne and throughout Northumberland, Country Durham and West Yorkshire. Filming locations include Gateshead, Alnmouth, Bamburgh, South Shields, North Shields and Whitley Bay. As I said, the show firmly puts the entire North East well and truly on the map.
However, despite being a ratings smash hit for ITV, the fourteenth and final series of Vera will air at the beginning of 2025! This will consist of two episodes and will put the character of DCI Vera Stanhope to bed forever. She will be missed!
