As the months get colder, there is more work for uni, and there is the general stress of daily life; self-care becomes increasingly important. It is essential that we do things that will help take away some of the anxiety we can feel day-to-day. However, self-care can be very time consuming, costly, and overall require a lot of energy, this is why I have curated a list of some low maintenance self-care activities that anyone can use to treat themselves and get out of a slump.

  1. Audiobooks are an easy way to do some light reading whilst having freedom to do tasks unlike when sitting down and reading a book. Going for a walk and listening to an audiobook is great to clear the mind whilst relieving some tension and they can be found for free on YouTube and other platforms!
  1. Doing facemasks with friends and having a night dedicated to relaxing can instantly make you feel better and is quick and easy to treat yourself to. Many facemasks are cheap, have great benefits for your skin, and can make you feel refreshed. Having friends there too can give you needed comfort for when you are in a slump.

  1. Simple things like going to a café can really boost your serotonin and allows you to treat yourself. Giving back to yourself like this is a really easy form of self-care and means that you can have time with yourself, or with friends, in a calm, relaxing environment letting that stress float away. Cafés are cosy and can also provide inspiration, therefore allowing you to be treated and find the motivation to help you get out of your slump.
  1. Personally, my favourite form of self-care is baking. Baking can be a really fun, low maintenance activity for when you feel yourself slipping into a slump. You can use cake mix or even bake from scratch using the many simple, tasty, and quick recipes found online. Not only is the activity fun, but the best part is getting to eat the final product!

  1. Another easy self-care task is journaling. Journaling can give you the space to write down any thoughts you have, anything that is weighing on your mind, and can give you a space to express yourself. This can be amazing, especially for the creative types, and the relief after writing some things down is unmatched.
