“Chirpy Irish” lad, Andrew Smyth, is best known for being a finalist in the seventh series of the well-loved show, The Great British Bake Off. As well as being a top, well-rounded baker, he is Cambridge educated and currently works for Rolls-Royce where he researches ‘Future Aircraft Concepts’.
He regularly incorporates his engineering skills into his baking, often seen throughout his GBBO series, and has baked for royalty as well as working with various television stations, and teaching his own masterclass sessions around the country.
Time to get to the big news we’ve been building up to; the Bake Off star himself is coming to visit Newcastle University! The Baking Society have managed to persuade him to come and visit, to talk all things baking and study related. He’s even commented on a social media post about this event himself, saying that he is “looking forward to coming up North!” We can’t wait either, Andrew!
The event will be taking place on Sunday 11th March, in Venue of the students union. Although a start time needs to be confirmed, it is likely to begin at approximately 7pm. Fear not, tickets are on sale to all non-members at the university too! Admission is only £3 for members, and £5 for everyone else on the NUSU site. The committee of the Baking Society hope that you will join us for our big event of the year, which will be a hit and definitely not a soggy bottom! Follow Andrew and his journey to the toon next weekend on Instagram.
