In light of Valentines weekend, it is important to focus on the love of my favourite club, who thankfully managed to secure an outstanding 4-1 victory against rivals Doncaster Rovers on the 13th of February.
Despite trudging the despair of League One football for yet another season, which still baffles me how steep our fall from grace has been, every so often Sunderland reminds me why I love them; that no matter how difficult the situation you may find yourself in – things will only get better.
Charlie Wyke continued his scintillating form this season by adding another four goals to his tally, taking him to 21 goals in all competitions, resurgent under the new regime of Lee Johnson who has managed to mould the team around the Englishmen to achieve his best in front of goal.
Aiden McGeady also carried on his fine run of form, showcasing his skill and finesse on the ball, clearly playing at a level in League One which is below what he could still achieve even at 34 years of age.
My relationship with Sunderland has been severely tarnished since our premier league relegation, slipping down the leagues without a whimper, however; there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
With the recent announcement that Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’ ownership claim received EFL approval and a young, ambitious coach implementing a much more positive philosophy of play, it would suggest that after years of heartache and disappointment; that these flashes of the club I love and has given me so many wonderful memories may shortly return to it’s former glory.
