November into December at university can feel like the bleakest period of the year, with assignments piling up, the nights drawing in quicker and the stress of trying to sort out housing for the next year all looming over our heads. However, there is one positive to this time of year – the fact Christmas is soon on the horizon. So here are some of the best ways to get into the festive spirit...

For those who haven’t already seen, The Grand has put up lots of festive decorations, including Christmas trees, baubles and plenty of tinsel. So, whilst you’re trying to get those end-of-term assignments complete, why not feel a little Christmas cheer? Grab a friend and go on a cosy study date and enjoy a hot chocolate or gingerbread latte at The Grand, which in my opinion is Campuses best coffee shop - £2.50 for a latte, that’s got to be a win!

Whilst technically not on campus, the Newcastle Christmas market has arrived gracing the streets around Grey’s Monument with food stalls, homemade gifts and plenty of Christmas spirit. Why not take a stroll after a day of lectures and grab some scran, you definitely won’t be disappointed. However, if you aren’t in the mood to take a walk around town with the busy shoppers the Student Union has plenty of festive activities to keep us all entertained, from Christmas cookie decorating to Christmas card crafting sessions there’s something for everyone.

Finally check out your department's Christmas itinerary as it is Formal season, with many departments around the university hosting their annual winter balls. Get all dressed up and enjoy a proper sit-down meal before dancing the night away with your peers. It can be a great way to have some much-needed fun before we all return home for the holidays. However, if none of these options are taking your fancy why not just throw on a Christmas jumper for a lecture or listen to ‘Last Christmas’ whilst you go about your day?
