I should start this article with a disclaimer: my opinion on expensive makeup is heavily biased. This is due to the fact that I am severely emotionally attached to the same specific Revolution makeup items I first bought at 16, that have been staples of my makeup routine ever since. I think I’d cry if I had to find an alternative for the same shades that I’ve been layering on my face for the past five years. My selection process was not extensive, it was merely a ‘what can I afford on a minimum wage salary?’. But there’s no looking back for me now.
But with this being said, there’s a reason I stick with these cheap products - they get the job done. There’s a general association that the more expensive the makeup, the better the quality, but I haven’t found this to be true. Even if this was the case, all I’m looking for is something that’ll last me the full day that I’m out, for a maximum of 10 hours, which cheaper makeup is very much capable of doing. Maybe I have to bring my eyeliner bottle with me to top up my wings once or twice, but when my eyeliner’s £5.49, I’m not going to complain about this.
I could be missing out, I know. And if truth be totally told, I do have a fear that I’ll buy something too expensive as a one-off and it’ll become a staple I need to keep replacing. But for now, I say save your pennies and stick to Superdrug. For most high-end products, you’ll be able to find a shade match from a cheaper company easily, anyway. And as for quality, I wouldn’t say cheaper makeup exclusively means cheaper quality - especially with the nature of makeup as being something you replace regularly, anyway.
