The Newcastle Islamic Society has plans to hold a series of fundraising activities that will be held outside the Student Union from dates 26 October to 1 November 2015.
A project of Islamic relief, The Charity Week, is an annual event run by Islamic societies of universities worldwide in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Switzerland and Qatar.
The aim of this project is to support orphans worldwide from the collections made from the activities, which will be channelled directly to the Islamic Relief Organization.
Last year, with mere number of 12 volunteers, The Newcastle Islamic Society managed to raise a sum of £2,000 from activities such as the Daily Bake Stall, University Challenge against Northumbria University, Football tournament, A Girls Night Movie Session and a Pizza Dinner Night out.
This year, The Newcastle Islamic Society has decided to line up the Charity Week with an awash of different activities from the previous year.
The society interviewed Robina, the Project Manager of Newcastle University Charity Week 2015 and also volunteer of the Islamic Society, where she revealed that daily baked goods and homemade hot Chai and Arabic coffee will be available daily outside the Student Union.
Cupcake decorations and a chocolate foundation have been planned as well.
Robina also mentioned that the Islamic Society has plans to have Henna artist come down for students interested in having a temporary tattoo.
Students with strong-arm strength can participate in an arm wrestling fight or those with excellent finger speed can compete in a Fifa competition.
A Car Boot Sale selling decorated stationeries will be held outside King George Building and that will end the weeklong Charity Week event, said Robina.
Robina explained that this year’s Charity Week is slightly different from the previous years.
“On the first day of Charity Week, 26th October 2015, a survey will be open and anyone who donated can go onto the Charity week.org website and actually vote which projects they want their money to go!” she said.
“I attended a meeting last week and they hinted that one is going to help the refugees in Burma and another giving psychological support for children in war torn Syria.”
The Newcastle Islamic Society opens their invites to everyone from all different backgrounds to participate in this annual event.
Interested participants have to grab the society’s T-Shirt from any committee who will be at the daily bake stall held outside the Student Union and then would be able to get involved with any of the activities.
