The British-born producer and songwriter produced an energetic atmosphere mirrored by the Newcastle crowd in his famous furry blue hat, with his openers Jamal G, Hotline and BL3SS providing the perfect warm-up for the main act. Jones's set included surprising remixes that popped off, including George Michael's 'Careless Whisper', 'Guess' by Charli xcx featuring Billie Eilish and 'We Like To Party! (The Vengabus)' by Vengaboys as well as beats from 'I Like To Move It' by will.i.am.
Jones provided an exciting set for the hour and a half he performed in NX's 360-degree booth, interacting throughout and occasionally addressing the crowd with "up the toon!" During his song 'Tequila', which features Martin Solveig and RAYE, he impressively embraced the spirit of the song by taking a shot before the beat drop, as well as enthusiastically "getting low" whilst still playing the decks in another song.
The renowned DJ played a sample of his discography including: 'All Day and Night' (Madison Beer and Martin Solveig); 'Instruction' (Demi Lovato and Stefflon Don); 'Tequilla' (Martin Solveig & RAYE); 'You Don't Know Me' (RAYE); 'I Got U' (Duke Dumont); 'Breathe' (Ina Wroldsen); 'Play' (Olly Alexander). Jax Jones is always producing new music and mixes, shared on his social media, as well as appearing on the charts and on the radio. His most recent release was a Pitbull remix of his song 'Tonight (D.I.Y.A)' with Jason Derulo and Joel Curry. Jax Jones is currently in the middle of his busy UK tour of eight cities, and is performing in Manchester next on Saturday 12th October followed by Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool and Bristol.
This was a 4-star gig due to its high-energy vibe, providing banger after banger of his own songs then also throwing in remixes of both classic and new dance floor-fillers. Despite the majority of the set being perfect, there were some brief lulls in the performance as well as some of the audience finding the ending anti-climatic. However, Jax Jones' infectious personality spread to the crowd, making the people attending his set not just an audience, but a community being a part of something special.
