Journaling and scrapbooking have always been a popular way to document our lives and have fun while doing it! Recently people have taken to social media to share their leather-bound books bursting with stickers, train tickets, and Polaroid film.
Whilst it can be great to find inspiration online, don’t be put off by a Pinterest feed of perfect pages and unrealistic inspo. Junk journaling is all about freestyling and having fun making your own thing: the messier the page the better in my opinion! And unlike most other crafty hacks you see online, scrapbooking doesn’t require you to have the most random and particular products lying about your house. It's all about recycling the materials you already have.
So, if you are not sure what to do with all the flyers you picked up on freshers week, why not have a go cutting them up and sticking them down to make the pages as bold and bright as you like? Magazines and newspapers are perfect for finding cool cutouts and lettering (maybe just don’t tell the editors if you are chopping up this one!). You can use pretty much any materials you have, collaging with a range of stuff to make your journal a little different.
So, whether you prefer organised mess, spacing out the stickers, colour coordinating the pages, or welcoming in a little more clutter and chaos into your journal; I think we can all agree to forget the dusty photo albums and try out a more creative way of recording our memories.
