In this last decade we really have seemed to rediscover our love of vinyl. Whether it's the superior sound quality, the sleeve artwork or the vintage feel that drives us in our thousands to our nearest record store, increased sales since 2007 reflect a rediscovery of the humble LP. To mark our affection for the beloved music format, record stores worldwide have been participating in an annual celebration since 2008.

Record store day occurs on the third Saturday of April, falling this year on April 13th. Over 200 independent record stores in the UK will take part in the day which will see in-store events including performances from bands, giveaways and the release of specially pressed records exclusive to participating stores that are heavily anticipated by scores of music fans.

2019’s list spans an impressive and varied range of tastes and genres. The list includes previously unreleased materials and special editions from the likes of Bastille, The Courteeners, and Fatboy slim as well as more unconventional items including Mickey Mouse Disco, a compilation of Disney hits reimagined as disco anthems, which has been out of print since 1995.

Two highly anticipated albums on this year’s list of releases come from much loved Indie favourites Blossoms and the incomparable Fleetwood Mac.

Blossoms’ hit second album ‘Cool like you’ will be available in a double vinyl edition which includes new song I’ve seen the future as well as a selection of live covers including The Stone Roses’ She bangs the drum and John Lennon’s Woman. The alternate Fleetwood Mac offers fans previously unreleased early recordings from their 1975 self-titled debut album. Including classics such as Rhiannon, Landslide and Say you love me, it is certain to be a highly purchased release on the day.

Newcastle has six record stores participating in this year’s event including Reflex, RPM Music, Beatdown and Beyond Vinyl. Festivities include live performances and guest DJs as well as free food and beer. Make sure to keep an eye on your favorite record stores website and Facebook page for more info as April 13th approaches.
