Trying to find a new and cost-effective hobby to pick up this summer? Look no further! Here are eight fun and easy-to-learn hobbies to choose from...
- Crocheting - wool yarns cost no more than £1-£3, so why not get yourself down to Wilko or your local charity shop, pick some cute wool colours and watch a Youtube tutorial or two? Who knows, maybe by the end of summer you'll have crocheted yourself an entire wardrobe!
- Journaling/scrapbooking - all you need to start a journal or a scrapbook is some pretty pens, fun paper, washi tape, an empty book (obviously) and some CREATIVITY. Once you've acquired all of the above, go crazy!
- Learning a new language - this will require concentration and dedication, but it's certainly low-cost (if you're using free online platforms like Youtube or Duolingo) and can be incredibly rewarding.
- Jewellery Making - all you'll need is some pliable wire, some pliers, and some nice gemstones or beads (although you could always go scavenging for your own stones, shells or gems to save money).
- Reading - it seems like an obvious one, but reading is a great way to pass the time! If you don't usually read or struggle to find the book for you, I suggest watching some Youtube recommendation videos (my favourite book-tubers are Jack Edwards and A Clockwork Reader).
- Yoga - free to practice in the confines of your own home, Yoga is beneficial to both your physical and mental health (and saves you from having to spend a fortune on a gym membership).
- Making homemade tea - if you're a tea fanatic then why not try making your own infusions? Ingredients should be fairly cheap, although you may need to invest in a teapot if it's to become a full-time hobby.
- Painting - you don't need to have any artistic talent to pick up a paintbrush, just some creativity and patience (if you possess neither then maybe try a paint-by-number).
Hopefully one of these options spikes your interest! I hope everyone has a fun summer...
