One of the most successful presenting theatres in the UK, Theatre Royal showcases up to 400 performances a year to almost 400,000 people and has established itself as a leader in entertainment for the North East's arts scene. Its beautiful, Grade I listed building on Grey Street is impressive in itself, and combined with its programme of great quality built up over the decades, Theatre Royal is as prestigious as it sounds. Despite this - or perhaps because of this - theatre and the arts can sometimes seem quite inaccessible to students and young people as an avenue of culture and entertainment. Considering we make up a large proportion of major cities' populations, this can often mean a big viewership for theatre is being missed out on.
"Excellent experience in real-life arts marketing for one of the North East's most high-profile theatres"
The Theatre Royal Trust is aiming to combat this and boost engagement with drama and theatre by offering a position as their volunteer Student Ambassador, for those passionate about arts and culture. Working alongside the theatre's marketing team, a Student Ambassador would aid in promoting shows both in person and on social media, taking part in focus groups and liaising with student media for interviews and press reviews - namely, us here at The Courier, NUTV or Radio! As a result you'd gain excellent experience in real-life arts marketing for one of the North East's most high-profile theatres, opportunities to get a set of theatre tickets per season and brush shoulders with resident theatre professionals to talk about careers in the arts sector.
If this sounds like something that would interest and benefit you, please get in touch with the Theatre Royal by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with an up to date CV and covering letter by the deadline of Monday 21st October, and visit http://www.theatreroyal.co.uk/about/jobs for more information about the role.
