Outfits for the library

Why looking your best for the library can be motivating.

Deadline season awaits us. It’s time to switch on ReCap, skim read missed chapters and cry a whole lot until the minimum word count shows up on the bottom of the screen. What does seem to help in this harrowing time, is the library. Yes, I have a desk and a quiet room at home. But there’s just something about being around a swarm of similarly suffering students that puts you slightly at ease - when I study at home, I imagine I’m missing out while everyone else is taking it easy, but when I’m on Floor 3 of the Phil Rob I can see that this is very much not the case.

Unfortunately, this does mean that you can’t just work in your pyjamas with your Oodie over them. But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, sometimes forcing myself to wear jeans puts me in a better working mindset, as I know I can’t just lay down and nap away my precious time. Dressing up and putting makeup on is actually a great way to draw a distinction between work time and down time.

So I would actually recommend putting on your most meticulously curated fits for the library, if that’s what you’re feeling. Some comfy jeans and a patterned crop tee is always a shout - simple, yet effective. A big jumper too, so you don’t have an excuse to leave if you start feeling the cold. I’d really suggest anything as long as it’s not something you sleep in, and it’s something you feel good in. If you’re feeling joggers and a hoodie, go ahead. But equally, if you’re feeling a dress and a leather jacket, go crazy, go be the main character of the Marj.
