Following on from the 2015 Volkswagen, the parent company of Porsche, emissions test scandal, Porsche have announced they will cease making diesel cars.

Porsche's focus will instead lie with petrol, electric and hybrid engines for their vehicles. The chief executive of the company, Oliver Blume, stated that their intention was not to demonise diesel. Saying that "It is and will remain an important propulsion technology."

Despite not building their own diesel engines, Porsche's image suffered, leading them to make this decision to switch.

It is understood that Porsche has a fully-electric luxury car in development, with billions of euros invested in new technology.

All existing customers with diesel cars will still be served so their worries can be put to rest.

Although not the first hybrid or electric cars, Porsche is a huge name in the industry, and their decision could be a major gust in the winds of change.
