As exam season approaches and stress levels soar, the upcoming holiday season emerges as a beacon of hope for students in need of a well-deserved break.

However, deciding between an adventurous escapade and a relaxing retreat post-exams is an added stress within itself. In this article, I will weigh up both options to help you make an informed decision of what to choose for your upcoming break.

Many students are drawn to the idea of a relaxing holiday as it provides the perfect opportunity to unwind and recharge after a busy academic year. During relaxing holidays, the pressures of screens, deadlines, and the constant buzz of social obligations momentarily dissolve, providing a temporary refuge from normality. Moreover, these getaways offer a chance to appreciate the company of family or friends, free from the constraints of day to day life. The combination of catching up on sleep, soaking in the sun, and a hiatus from routine fosters the perfect environment for rejuvenation. As a result, you can return to your academic endeavours in September with a refreshed mindset.

The most important part is that you fully embrace your break.

On the flip side, adventurous holidays cater to those seeking a break from the ordinary. Whether it’s hiking through scenic landscapes or traipsing through lively cultural hubs, adventurous holidays promise unforgettable thrills. Trying unique experiences, like motorbiking in Morocco or following the trails of the Swiss Alps often push individuals out of their comfort zones. The thrill of trying something novel can provide a sense of accomplishment whilst the exposure to new experiences enables personal growth.

Ultimately, the decision between relaxing or adventurous holidays depends on individual preferences, interests and the intended goal of the holiday. Whilst some might crave a little peace after a busy year, others, like myself, opt for the thrill of adventure. Regardless of your decision, the most important part is that you fully embrace your break and return to academic responsibilities feeling revitalised.
