Poembox: Remembering 2020

2020 started off like any other year,
At the time there was joy, a lack of fear
But soon March hit,
And brought with it,
The turning of our world upside down.

When Boris told us to stay apart,
It was with a hugely heavy heart
That we stopped seeing our friends
And saw the world through a different lens,
One where we are all 2m apart.

For months we have made our own fun,
And there have been so many activities done,
That brought a smile,
When the world seemed so vile,
And some joy was needed to be seen.

There has been baking, running and quizzes galore,
Who would have thought any time before,
That a quiz could be famous
From someone trying to shame us,
When we all got wrong answers on a Thursday.

But unfortunately this awful disease,
From both here in England and overseas,
Has taken many loved ones,
Mothers, fathers and sons,
And my heart goes out to all of those affected.

Let us look to a future that's better,
When we can speak to each other by more than a letter,
When pubs will be packed,
And nobody can contract,
This awful disease called Covid-19.
