SPOILERS for RuPaul's Drag Race UK
Spring has finally sprung and along with it comes the closure to another season of RuPaul's Best Friend Race. After a fantastic season of twists, turns and fabulously talented drag queens, the show unfortunately trips on the last hurdle and stumbles home like Ginny Lemon in a pair of fish slippers.
After last week's shock-double shantay we rejoin the final four as they go through the motions of a classic (yet much lower budget) Drag Race finale. Our final four consists of the two front runners Bimini Bon Boulash and Lawrence Chaney, then there’s Tayce and Ellie Diamond, who I assume are both still here to pad out the run time (We all love a bit of filler, eh Sister Sister?).
The episode sets off with the girls writing their personalised lyrics to RuPaul's single A Little Bit of Love, Bimini and Tayce seem confident but Lawrence is struggling to get the creative juices flowing. After having their one-to-one’s with Ru and Michelle (in which we learn that Tayce’s dad was once a bass player for Wham!, which explains a lot) the final four start learning their choreo and the same dynamic is present, Tayce and Bimini are killing it, Lawrence is floundering and Ellie is… there.
Not to be too harsh on Ellie by any means, her character and attitude were a warm welcome in the episode, and her verse was pretty good too, she just didn’t pull much screen time in this episode. The climactic performance of the episode was building up to be something immense with the staying power of All Stars 2's Read U Wrote U, but faulty production and sound mixing meant that the lyrics were not only drowned out, but the music was out of time with the entire performance. This unfortunately made all the hard work put in by the final four girls for naught as the entire show was out of sync. However, the entrance of the eliminated queens was a great addition, I will always welcome Tia Kofi back onto my TV screen and it was fun to see Joe Black and Ginny Lemon wobbling around at the back like the naughty kids in class.

In the final runway, Bimini and Ellie gave us their drag at its finest, elevated and fashionable looks that fit the category of “Final Four Eleganza” to a tee. Lawrence’s drag racer look was serviceable with a fun nod to the show, whereas Tayce’s ill fitting body suit definitely stood out like a sore thumb next to the likes of Bimini, and was slightly disappointing for a finale look. Then came the final deliberation and it was announced that the winner of Season 2 is...Lawrence Chaney.
If you’d asked me on Episode One who I thought would win, Lawrence would’ve been my answer. But after the Covid break and Bimini’s incredible comeback winning themself four RuPeter badges (the most wins in Drag Race UK history), Bimini seemed like the perfect choice. But Lawrence was clearly Ru’s favourite throughout the show and he makes for a great figurehead for the community. His charming demeanor and quick witted comedy will take the British Isles by storm, and I can't wait to see what he does next.
