If there's one place that immediately comes to mind when I think of my dream travel destination, it's Istanbul.

I can't even begin to describe how much I've been yearning to visit this city. In fact, I've practically planned the entire trip already - I just need to save up enough money to make it happen. Luckily, Turkey isn't too expensive overall, so I won't have to wait years to fulfil my dream. Thank goodness for that!

Why Istanbul, you ask? Well, where do I even begin? For starters, it boasts an unbelievably rich history that spans over a millennium. As the capital of three major empires - the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman - this city is practically bursting at the seams with historical significance. If, like me, you're a history buff at heart, then the historical area of the city Fatih, is definitely the place to start the tour.

Istanbul is home to some of the most breath-taking sights you'll ever lay eyes on.

But Istanbul isn't just about its glorious past; it's also an incredibly beautiful city from both architectural and cultural standpoints. The city's architectural marvels are renowned not only for their blending of different styles but also for the way they push the boundaries with intricate decorations and motifs. With influences ranging from Greek and Roman to Persian and Islamic traditions, Istanbul's architecture is a true testament to the city's diverse heritage.

And let's not forget about the iconic landmarks! From the awe-inspiring Hagia Sophia and the majestic Topkapi Palace to the serene Blue Mosque, Istanbul is home to some of the most breath-taking sights you'll ever lay eyes on. The intricate mosaics, soaring minarets, and grandeur of these buildings are simply beyond compare.

But it's not just about the sights; Istanbul also offers magnificent views, thanks in no small part to its designation as the city of seven hills. So, be sure to pack a sturdy pair of shoes - not just for hiking in nature, but also for strolling through the city streets.

And as you're exploring the bustling streets of Istanbul, don't forget to fully embrace the vibrant culture and warmth of the people who call this city home. From the friendly smiles and welcoming gestures to the genuine hospitality, Istanbulites know how to make visitors feel right at home. Well, am I a bit biased because I'm head over heels in love with the city? Absolutely.

If you find yourself leaving the Grand Bazaar with bags filled with spices and the typical red handwoven rug, don't forget to pick up a Nazar boncuğu.

Of course, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Even though the city is generally safe for tourists, you still need to watch out for scams. The general rule of thumb? Always be cautious when accepting help or invitations from strangers. What may seem like friendliness could turn out to be a chargeable service you never knew existed! So, always clarify prices before agreeing to anything.

If you find yourself leaving the Grand Bazaar with bags filled with spices and the typical red handwoven rug, don't forget to pick up a Nazar boncuğu, also known as the Evil Eye amulet. It's said to protect the one who carries it from negative energy, and you'll find them adorning almost every doorway in Istanbul!

And as you're soaking in the sights, sounds, and flavours of Istanbul, don't miss the chance to sample some of the city's culinary delights. From the fresh fish sandwiches at the street markets to the creamy and sweet Salep enjoyed while savouring the mesmerising views, there's something to satisfy every craving. And rumour has it that Karaköy Güllüoğlu serves up the best Baklava in all of Turkey - I'll have to confirm that for myself once I finally get there!

Did I mention that Istanbul straddles two continents? Yep, that's right! With just a short walk (or maybe a quick bus ride) across the bridge, you can go from feeling like you're in Europe to finding yourself on the shores of Asia. How cool is that?

So, there you have it, my ode to Istanbul, the city of my dreams. With its rich history, stunning architecture, vibrant culture, and mouth-watering cuisine, Istanbul truly has it all. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some saving up to do. Istanbul, here I come!
