Layering will be your best friend throughout the chilly seasons, however, if not done correctly, you will be battling underneath bulky layers. The key to layering is wearing thin thermals. You won’t feel restricted by thick jumpers stacked upon each other and when worn as a base to an outfit, they’re unlikely to be seen at all. Thus, you’re free to wear whatever you wish over the top and not have to sacrifice style over staying warm.
Also, cold weather doesn’t mean you have to stop wearing mini skirts and dresses. Fleece-lined tights solve the issue of bare legs against arctic temperatures and to the naked eye, they appear to be just a normal pair of thin black tights. Fleece-lined leggings are also a great alternative for when you have exhausted wearing your favourite pair of denim jeans.
Another issue with trying to dress cute over winter is wearing a coat or a jacket that completely devours a good outfit. But a coat or jacket can completely elevate any look. The material of a jacket, whether it be leather, suede or fur, has the power to make an otherwise simple outfit instantly interesting. In particular, trench coats are especially trending this season. They’re perfect for when you need a longer coat to keep the winter chill away but still want to look put together.
Finally, never underestimate the power of accessories. Winter accessories are often seen as only a means of covering up and staying warm – but this does not mean they have to be boring! Look at accessories as a part of your outfit, instead of something to cover up with. A statement scarf, beanie or gloves can tie any outfit together while ensuring that little of your body heat will escape. Ear muffs are also going to be big this season and they alone completely combat the age-old issue of staying cute and staying warm.
Thus, just because the weather gets colder, it doesn’t mean our outfits have to worsen!
