It’s been a year since the release of Sony’s Spider-Man 2 for the PlayStation 5 and it was just confirmed by Insomniac that there will be no additional content releases for the game.

This announcement falls on top of the previous announcements by Insomniac that involve the cancellation of the multiplayer Spider-Verse themed game. The trailer and images for this game were leaked online and had fans outraged by the simple fact that the game was essentially finished and was something gamers really wanted.

The Spider-Man 2 DLC was rumoured to contain three different stories... this mirrors the DLC release of the first game...

The Spider-Man 2 DLC was rumoured to contain three different stories: one containing a plotline to do with the villain, The Beetle; one centred around the carnage reference featured in the game; and one finally bringing us a Spider-Verse story, which would have tied in directly to the cancelled Spider-Verse game. This mirrors the DLC release of the first game which revolved around three main story missions, with additional cosmetics for the main characters.

Furthermore, the release of the DLC for the first Spider-Man game was every month for three months after the original release. This means that fans were gaining new content consistently after the games release all the way up until Christmas time, making the game feel fully expanded upon.

Spider-Man 2 was very similar to the original game...

This has upset a lot of fans since Spider-Man 2, as much as it was praised by fans, was very similar to the original game, in terms of content size, leading to fans craving more from the game. On top of this, Spider-Man: Miles Morales was also criticised for having a small playtime, with its main missions being beatable within 7.5 hours.

The reason for the DLC cancellation could be due to many factors, whether it be the downsizing of staff, the hacking and leaks that recently went on at Insomniac, or focusing more time on the solo Wolverine game that is set to release in upcoming years.

The cancellation of the DLC has made many fans outraged due to Insomniac already cancelling multiple other projects, Spider-Man 2 not offering enough gameplay, and variety in comparison to the first game.
