After season 3 ending with a massive cliffhanger, Stranger Things is back for more. But this time… in Russia.

As the biggest success story for a Netflix original, it shouldn’t be surprising that its most charismatic lead, Jim Hopper, is back as the centre of a new story.

As many suspected, Netflix wasn’t quite ready to let go of its most popular character. Though the reveal of his survival somewhat cheapens the finale of the previous season, the Duffer Brothers, creators of the show, have added: “It’s not all good news for our ‘American’; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other”. David Harbour will most definitely be able to handle the show on his own, even with some of his best scenes being about the chemistry he has with the cast.

Most will agree that Hopper is the most interesting character in Stranger Things. And like every great television character, he’s not perfect. In season 3, we see him struggle to adapt his questionable methods as a chief of police into the caring father Eleven desperately needs. Ultimately, he comes into his own, committing the ultimate sacrifice, and leading to a movingly emotional send-off.

The Brothers added: “meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything.”

However, while Hopper might be more than ready for a solo adventure, the rest of the cast is left to their own means. The Brothers added: “meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything.” Therefore, we must imagine that whatever is going on with Russia will directly impact the residents of Hawkins, which makes an eventual reunion between Hopper and the gang clearly inevitable.

This teaser indicates a welcome expansion of the world of Stranger Things, which we can only hope will continue to rely on exciting twists, charismatic leads, and carefully constructed characters.
