Travel wisely
While it may feel small when there’s celebrities that fly for seemingly any reason, it is still important for us all to consider environmentally friendly means of travel, especially since nearly half of all flights are commercial, and The EPA reporting that aircraft travel accounted for 9% of greenhouse gas emissions in 2016. Ideally, try to aim for direct flights, and opt for planes that use bio-fuels, if flying is necessary. Where possible, high speed rail routes like the Eurostar are more energy efficient than regional, slower trains.
Spend Locally
The World Tourism Organization indicates that for every $100 spent on a trip, a mere $5 goes to the host country, contributing to huge economic leakage. Instead of falling for staged authenticity, or giving money to international chains like McDonalds, buy local and indulge in the culture. This will only boost the economy, decrease the carbon footprint of importing goods and help preserve culture.
Visit sensibly
Instead of taking pictures with sedated tigers that are often endangered, and exploited for money often used in illegal trade, visit NGO National Parks or Sanctuaries. The entrance fee supports conservation practices, preserving endangered species and ecosystems for future travellers to experience.
