If you’ve ever been frustrated about something that is going on in uni or your student’s union, then the student council is here for you.

Coming from someone, who has not visited her first student council meeting until way into her second year, it is really something every student should give a visit here and there.

The student council meets usually once every few weeks in NUSU and you can find out about the meetings on their website, where you can also register for a voting place.

So, how does the student council work? All Newcastle University students are more than welcome to attend and if you register for a casual voting place you might be allocated one in an email beforehand, allowing you to vote on all motions presented to the council.

The council starts with presenting minutes, summaries from previous councils and then heads into motions proposed by students. Anyone can put forward a motion, which further highlights the importance of the council as students are at the forefront of change. All motions are considered and can be sent back for a few touch-ups or immediately submitted to the next council meeting for discussion.

Student council is the perfect place to share your voice and the ideal starting place for you to make some change. So, don’t hesitate and visit the next one, on Thursday 9 May at 5:15pm.
