You read that right, the myth, the legend, the greatest drama writer since Shakespeare, Vince Gilligan gifts the world a third series, Plur1bus (2025). The TV master picks up his pen after 3 years of silence, already known worldwide for his iconic Breaking Bad (2008-2013) and its, as much loved, spin off Better Call Saul (2015-2022). The multiple EMMY award winner quit the good old drugs and crime anti-hero stories, to try a science fiction plotline, with a synopsis that seems like it came straight out of a Rick And Morty episode.
The eternally discontented Carol is at the peak of her career as a novelist, supported by her much more cheerful companion. In the aftermath of a huge space discovery, a virus affects the scientists who were studying it, it then only took a few minutes to spread the virus to the entire world population. In the middle of all this Carol survives the virus and makes it her mission to stop this alien invasion. Gilligan hasn't chosen anybody to interpret his new protagonist, his most loyal fan will have the pleasure to meet Rhea Seehorn, also known as Kim Wexler, the partner in crime of Saul Godman. He revealed in an interview that the role of Carol was specifically written for Rhea, after working with her for over 6 years he judged she had the potential to carry an entire TV show by herself.
Knowing the style and innate talent of these two artists, we have the right to expect a new television triumph. It would be an understatement to say that it will be difficult to match the level of Breaking Bad but there is no harm in trying. In this regard, expect to feel several flashbacks to Gilligan's previous series, in addition to cameos from several actors, the screenwriters and directors have almost all been architects of their enormous success, so prepare yourself for a meaningful directing and minimalist but deadly effective dialogues.
Drama series have clearly changed enormously since the turn of the century, Vince Gilligan himself being an important engineer of it. With this series, it is yet another step in the evolution of drama series. You don't need to be a wizard to predict the popularity of this series, which was already renewed for a second season well before the first. However the question remains, does Gilligan still have it? Will he be able to compete with Severance (2022) and The Pitt (2025) as he did with Mad Men (2007) and Game Of Thrones (2011)? I will decide that following the finale on 26th December.
